Lodge Niederrhein No. 892

Based in Düsseldorf, Germany Lodge Niederrhein N°892 is a member of the Grand Lodge of British Freemasonry in Germany (GLBFG) under the auspices of the United Grand Lodges of Germany.

British Freemasonry has been active in Germany for more than 60 years. In 1980, the current Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany (GLBFG) was created, having first been a British Lodge District in 1957, a British Provincial Grand Lodge in 1959 and a German Grand Land Lodge in 1971. We are all proud to be German Masons and the GLBFG is part of the wider United Grand Lodges of Germany which has 4 other constituent Grand Lodges within it. Although we are German Masons, we are a truly International Grand Lodge and we have members from all four corners of the globe making up our ranks. Currently, there are 17 Lodges within our Grand Lodge located all over Germany – from Hamburg in the North, Berlin in the East, Düsseldorf in the West and Munich in the South. Our main concentration of Lodges is North West Germany as a consequence of the British Forces presence in post-war Germany. The Grand Lodge of British Freemasonry in Germany is a small Grand Lodge within the world-wide freemasonry community and our coat of arms ties our Grand Lodge into this community.

Lodge Niederrhein N°892 was consecrated on the 5th December 1964 in the capital city of North Rhein Westfalia, Düsseldorf and has met regularly there ever since. The first Worshipful Master was W Bro. WT King PProv GDC who has sadly now passed away. Since its consecration there have so far been more than 50 Worshipful Masters. We are proud to have several members serving as Office Bearers (past and present) in the Grand Lodge of British Freemasonry in Germany.

For some time the majority of members were from the British Forces, but with the gradual rundown of military personnel the membership now consists mainly of English speaking men resident and working in the Düsseldorf area, many of whom are German nationals. However, we also have members from the Middle East, New Zealand, South Africa, Hong Kong, Italy, Greece and America, a truly international Brotherhood with the common good of benevolence, charity and comradeship as its aim.

Together with the Bond of Friendship Lodge No 890 from Bonn, Lodge Niederrhein forms the basis of the membership of Rheinland Chapter No 1 of the Supreme Grand Chapter of British Royal Arch Masonry in Germany. Regular Meetings of Rheinland Chapter are held in Düsseldorf on the 3rd Monday in the months of June, September and November with the Installation Meeting taking place on the 3rd Monday in March.

With its centralized location near to the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre the Lodge receives many visitors from travelling Brethren from other recognized constitutions.

We would be delighted to make any Brother welcome who should happen to be in our area on the first Monday of every month except January, June, July and August. Our Installation Meeting, which is always the climax of every masonic year, is held on the first Saturday of June.

Any visitors who would like more information about becoming a member or any general information not available on these pages, please contact secretary(at)niederrhein892.org.
